The Cement Industry Environmental Consortium (CIEC) was incorporated in 1992.  The CIEC undertakes basic research relating to pollution control strategies relating primarily for the cement industry. In December of 1996 the CIEC was granted a patent for NOx control using biosolids.

The CIEC currently is evaluating additional NOx control technologies for use by the cement and electrical power industries.

The organization is unique in that regulatory agencies, industries and the State of California are partners in the cooperative effort to reduce negative environmental impacts.
